What is mobile windshield replacement?
Mobile windshield replacement means the shop drives to you. Instead of booking a bay, dropping your car off, and arranging a ride home, a fully stocked ClearShield van pulls up to your driveway, your office parking lot, or wherever the car is sitting, and the whole job happens there.
The work itself is identical to what a fixed shop does. We cut out the old urethane bead, clean and prime the pinch weld, set genuine OE glass with high-modulus adhesive, reinstall the mouldings and sensor covers, and recalibrate the forward-facing camera if your vehicle has one. The only thing that changes is the address.
That matters more in Florida than most places. Our mobile auto glass service corridor runs from Ocala down to Naples, and plenty of that stretch is a 40-minute drive from the nearest glass shop. A mobile visit turns a half-day errand into an hour of your car sitting where it already was.

How much does windshield replacement cost in Florida?
For most of our customers, nothing. Florida Statute 627.7288 requires insurers to waive the deductible on windshield replacement when you carry comprehensive coverage, so a qualifying claim costs you $0 out of pocket. We verify your policy, file the claim, and bill the insurer directly. You can read the full breakdown in our guide to free windshield replacement in Florida.
If you carry liability only, or your policy has an unusual glass endorsement, we quote cash. Cash pricing depends on three things: your vehicle, the glass specification (acoustic, heated, heads-up display, rain sensor), and whether ADAS calibration is required. We tell you the number before we book, not after we’ve already pulled the old glass.
One timing note worth acting on: if you’re still weighing whether a chip can wait, Florida’s summer heat spreads chips into full cracks far faster than most drivers expect, which is often the difference between a resin repair and a replacement.
What’s included in every replacement
- OE glass, moulding, and clips, no scavenged trim
- High-modulus urethane rated for your vehicle’s safe drive-away time
- Rain sensor, camera bracket, and mirror transfer
- ADAS calibration when the vehicle requires it
- Cleanup of every shard of old glass, inside and out
- Lifetime workmanship warranty in writing
Why does the glass brand matter?
The windshield is a structural part of the car. It carries roof-crush load in a rollover and it’s the backstop the passenger airbag inflates against. Thin or poorly formed aftermarket glass can flex in ways the engineers never planned for.
The other issue is optics. Modern windshields hold the camera that runs automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist. That camera looks through a specific patch of glass, and OE glass keeps the distortion in that patch inside factory tolerance. Cheap glass introduces waviness the camera reads as a moving object, and no amount of calibration fully fixes it. That’s why we quote OE by default rather than as an upsell.
Here’s how the three grades actually compare:
| What you’re comparing | OE glass (what we fit) | Aftermarket glass |
|---|---|---|
| Optical tolerance in the camera window | Built to the carmaker’s spec, so calibration lands first time | Varies by batch; waviness can cause repeat calibration failures |
| Acoustic and solar interlayers | Matches the original, cabin noise is unchanged | Often omitted, so road noise and heat soak increase |
| Fit of mouldings, brackets and sensors | Drops straight into the factory pinch weld and camera bracket | May need shimming or trimming, which invites future leaks |
| Effect on your warranty claim | Covered by our lifetime workmanship warranty | Still warranted by us, but more likely to need a revisit |
What happens with ADAS after the glass is in?
If your vehicle was built from roughly 2018 onward, there’s a good chance it has a forward-facing camera mounted to the windshield. Removing the glass moves that camera, and it has to be brought back inside the manufacturer’s tolerance before the safety systems can be trusted.
We handle it in the same appointment with our own equipment: static calibration against target boards for vehicles that need it, dynamic calibration on a road cycle for the rest, and pre- and post-scan diagnostics either way. Full detail lives on our mobile ADAS calibration page.
